Choosing a laptop for remote work is no easy task, since there is such a wide variety of devices with many different hardware configurations available.

MacBooks vs Windows laptops
A major choice you must make when purchasing a laptop for remote work is whether to opt for a MacBook or a Windows laptop.
We have done an in-depth comparison between the two operating systems here, in this article.
As a summary however, here are the advantages of Windows laptops:

Computing Power
All of the laptops included in this guide offer sufficient performance to handle all the tasks required of a typical remote worker: emailing, multitasking, text editing, using web browsers with multiple tabs etc.
However, 3D artists, video editors and designers require much more processing power. Laptops such as the MacBook Pro (with M4 Pro chip) and the ASUS ProArt 16 are included specifically for these users, even though their price can be prohibitive for remote workers.
Battery life
We’ve tried to select devices with good battery life that can last at least 8 hours of work on a single charge.
The problem, however, is that a laptop’s battery life strongly depends on what kind of work you are doing.
Simple tasks such as using web browsers or sending emails consume very little power, but programs such as Blender, Adobe Premier or Photoshop can consume an entire charge in 2-3 hours.
Connectivity
Connectivity in this article refers to the number of external devices you can connect to your laptop. This means extra monitors, peripherals such as a mouse, headphones, or microphones, etc.
This is an important feature since many remote workers will connect at least a mouse or an external monitor to their laptop.
We’ve also included a mention of the Wi-Fi protocol used by each laptop. Wi-Fi 7 was introduced in 2024, and it brings significant improvements in reliability, Internet speeds, latency, and stability.
Screen quality
Screen quality is another important consideration. Most of the laptops in this list (with the exception of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6) have a PPI (pixels-per-inch) of more than 200. PPI is important because it determines how sharp and clear the image is.
A laptop with good image clarity and sharpness just feels nicer to use. High resolution screens make text easier to read, images are clearer, etc.
Another consideration is color accuracy. This is especially important for designers who need to be 100% sure that the color they see on the screen is also the color the customer will see on theirs.
An important thing to note is that we’ve placed very little emphasis on screen refresh rate when choosing laptops for this article. A higher screen refresh rate is certainly a nice feature, since it makes everything you do on a laptop feel smoother and more precise. However, it isn’t as necessary and important for work tasks when compared to resolution and color accuracy.
Best Laptops for Remote Work in 2025
Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (M4)
The 2025 MacBook Air is an excellent laptop for most remote workers, students, and general productivity users.
It is quiet, has good performance, exceptional battery life, and amazing build quality.
However, the MacBook Air makes some compromises in port selection and raw processing power compared to its 2025 Windows counterparts.

Overall Value-for-Money: With a new starting price around €999, the MacBook Air is an affordable Apple laptop and offers well integrated features that “just work”.
Processing Power: The M4 chip provides fluid and responsive performance for all mainstream remote work tasks, including heavy web navigation, office suite applications such Excel and Word, and light-to-moderate creative work.
The MacBook has no fans, making it a completely silent device. However, this also means the chip experiences performance throttling under heavy loads to prevent overheating and damaging the laptop.
Battery Life: Expect up to 18 hours of battery life when using the laptop for light tasks such as text editing or emailing.
SSD Capacity & Memory Capacity: The base configuration comes with 16GB of RAM but just a 256GB SSD, which might be a problem for some users who need more storage space.
Screen Quality: The 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display is excellent for general use. It is sharp, bright at 500 nits, and features True Tone technology for comfortable viewing in various lighting conditions.
Webcam and Microphone Quality: The MacBook Air M4 has an excellent 12MP FaceTime HD camera, with many quality of life features such as Center Stage. The three-mic array is great and produces clear audio, which is important during meetings.
Connectivity: The MacBook Air’s most significant weakness. It is equipped with only two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports for data and display, a MagSafe 3 charging port and a headphone jack.
A docking station or dongle is mandatory if you need to connect external monitors, SD cards or other devices through USB.
The Air is also limited to Wi-Fi 6E, whereas many competing devices switched to the superior Wi-Fi 7 standard.
Security Features: Notable security features include Touch ID and Secure Enclave features which protect your personal data from being accessed.
Build Quality: Excellent. Incredibly thin and light yet rigid and durable chassis that feels premium in every respect.
Warranty Policy: Generally comes with a 2 year warranty. The optional AppleCare+ plan extends this coverage and adds accidental damage protection, though it comes at a significant cost and includes service fees for repairs.
Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6
The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 comes equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processor, which offers excellent performance and fantastic battery life.
Other notable advantages are the ThinkPad keyboard, lightweight build, storage space and good selection of ports.

Overall Value-for-Money: The ThinkPad T14s is positioned as a premium business laptop. The higher cost for this configuration is justified by the Snapdragon processor and its superior battery life. The Intel and AMD versions are cheaper, have a shorter battery life.
Processing Power: The Snapdragon X Elite processor delivers great performance for the most common business and productivity applications.
The downside of the Snapdragon X Elite is that it doesn’t work with all x86-only software. Before buying, check if your needed software is compatible with this particular configuration.
Battery Life: This is the biggest advantage of the T14s. Expect around 15-20 hours of real-world use on a single charge.
SSD Capacity & Memory Capacity: The T14s can be configured with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to a 2TB SSD, providing ample resources for even the most demanding multitaskers.
Screen Quality: The standard display is a high-quality WUXGA (1920×1200) IPS panel, available in a low-power variant for even better battery life.It is bright, matte, and excellent for productivity. OLED screen options are available for certain configurations.
Webcam and Microphone Quality: The laptop is equipped with a high-resolution 5MP or 1080p webcam with an infrared sensor for facial recognition.
The dual-array microphone system provides clear audio capture and even offers noise suppression (performed by a separate chip).

The Dell XPS 13 laptop is designed to be sleek, minimalist, and ultraportable.
The 2025 model offers two distinct processor architectures: a traditional Intel Core Ultra “Lunar Lake” (model 9350) or the battery-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon X series (model 9345).
Great performance and battery life, at the cost of connection ports and some usability quirks won’t like very much.

Overall Value-for-Money: The XPS 13 is a premium laptop. The price is explained mostly by the high-end materials and exceptional design. It mostly appeals to users who place a high priority on design and build quality.
Processing Power: Both processor configurations are very good. The Intel Core Ultra 7 258V (Lunar Lake) delivers excellent performance for all productivity tasks and is compatible with virtually any software on the market.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite prioritizes battery life, but sacrifices some software compatibility since it doesn’t use the x86 architecture.
Battery Life: Around 12-14 hours of use for the Intel version and 15-20 for the Snapdragon version.
SSD Capacity & Memory Capacity: Configurations are available with up to 32GB of fast LPDDR5x memory and up to 4TB of SSD storage.
Screen Quality: Multiple display options available. This configuration uses a 3K OLED, comes with touch support, vibrant colors, perfect blacks, and excellent sharpness.
Non-OLED options are also available, including a high-quality FHD+ (1920×1200) IPS panel with a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling.
Webcam and Microphone Quality: Offers a capable 1080p FHD webcam, IR camera for facial recognition login and dual-array microphones.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t include physical privacy shutter for the camera.
Connectivity: Its greatest weakness. Only two USB-C ports (supporting Thunderbolt 4 on the Intel model) and a headphone jack.
There are no USB-A ports, no HDMI output, and no SD card reader. While this creates a clean aesthetic, it makes a USB-C hub or dongle an essential accessory if you need to connect to external devices.
Both models support the latest Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 standards.
Security Features: IR camera for Windows Hello and a fingerprint reader integrated into the keyboard. Also has a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip for hardware-based encryption.
Build Quality: Exceptional. The chassis is both incredibly thin and light yet feels remarkably solid and durable.
Warranty Policy: Typically, one to two years. Can be extended through various Dell offers. Dell also offers replacement parts and extensive documentation if you need to repair the laptop yourself.
Asus Zenbook 14 OLED (UM3406/UX3405)
The Asus Zenbook 14 OLED offers a premium, feature-rich experience at a competitive price.
It offers a good display, lightweight build, powerful processors at the cost of battery life, speaker quality and performance during heavy use.

Overall Value-for-Money: This is the Zenbook 14’s core strength.The specification sheet contains features typically found in laptops costing several hundred euros more.
For shoppers seeking the maximum hardware for their money, the Zenbook 14 is often the best deal available.
Processing Power: The Zenbook 14 is available with both Intel (UX3405) and AMD (UM3406) processors.
These chips provide excellent performance for productivity, multitasking, and even light gaming or content creation.
However, the performance of these chips is limited by the laptop’s design, since it is prone to overheating.
Battery Life: A major weak point. Models with AMD processors tend to have better longevity. Configurations with high-end Intel CPUs and the 3K OLED display have mediocre battery life and rarely last more than 8 hours of use.
SSD Capacity & Memory Capacity: Between 16GB or 32GB of RAM and 1TB SSD.
The base model is sometimes offered with only 8GB of RAM, a configuration that is difficult to recommend in 2025.
Screen Quality: The display is the main attraction. Most configurations include a beautiful Lumina OLED panel, with a 2.8K or 3K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.
These screens offer perfect contrast, vibrant colors covering 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut, and excellent motion clarity. Brightness can be a bit dim for outdoor use.
Webcam and Microphone Quality: A capable 1080p FHD webcam and a physical privacy shutter.
It has a single microphone array with AI-powered noise canceling to ensure clear audio in meetings. While the webcam performance is acceptable but can appear grainy in low-light conditions.

Overall Value-for-Money: The Spectre x360 14 is expensive, but the price is justified by the build quality, high-end components, versatile 2-in-1 design, and the inclusion of a stylus in the box.
Processing Power: Comes with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor with integrated Intel Arc graphics. Performance is good but not spectacular.
Battery Life: Battery life is quite good. Expect around 8-10 hours of continous work use. It also supports fast charging, reaching 50% capacity in about 45 minutes.

Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch (M4 Pro)
The Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch with the M4 Pro chip offers much better sustained performance and connectivity than the MacBook Air M4.
The price increase is significant, but it’s worth it for the improved performance, battery life and longevity when compared to the MacBook Air.

Overall Value-for-Money: The MacBook Pro is an expensive laptop. It’s worth comes from its reliability, versatility, and time saved when doing intensive work tasks such as video editing, multitasking, rendering and software compiling. It is also a long-lasting device, from which you can expect many, many years of use.
Processing Power: This is the key advantage of this MacBook Pro configuration. Compared to the standard M4, this configuration has 2 extra CPUs and 6 more GPU cores.
Most importantly, it has built in cooling fans, allowing the chips to sustain peak performance for long periods without limiting performance, a key advantage over the MacBook Air.
Battery Life: Battery life on the MacBook Pro can vary greatly depending on how you use it. You can get 12-14 hours of use with light tasks such as email or text editing, or 1-2 hours with intensive tasks such as Blender.
On paper, battery life on the MacBook Pro is longer than the MacBook Air, however in real life the MacBook Pro is used for intense work tasks so it will feel much shorter.
SSD Capacity & Memory Capacity: The base M4 Pro model starts with 16GB or 18GB of unified memory. Storage starts at 512GB and goes up to 8TB.
Screen Quality: The Liquid Retina XDR display achieves incredible brightness (up to 1600 nits peak for HDR), excellent contrast ratio, and variable 120Hz refresh rate. It is sharp and color-accurate, which is why many creative workers prefer it. An optional nano-texture coating is available to reduce glare.
Webcam and Microphone Quality: Comes with the same 12MP camera found in the MacBook Air. It has a three-mic array and six-speaker sound system; combined these offer a best-in-class sound experience.
Connectivity: The MacBook Pro offers a vastly improved port selection compared to the Air. It includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports, a full-size HDMI port, an SD card slot, a MagSafe 3 charging port, and a high-impedance headphone jack.
A minor criticism is the lack of Wi-Fi 7 support, as it ships with Wi-Fi 6E.19
Security Features: Security is handled by Touch ID integrated into the Magic Keyboard, providing fast and secure authentication, plus Apple’s other security features.
Build Quality: The CNC-milled aluminum body provides a premium feel with no flex or creaks. It is slightly thicker and heavier than the Air to accommodate the more powerful components and cooling system, but it remains a very portable and durable laptop.
Warranty Policy: 1 to 2 years, depending on where you buy it. The AppleCare+ extended warranty is highly recommended since it is a very expensive laptop that is also very difficult to repair.

The Asus ProArt P16 is a laptop built for maximum performance and marketed for video editors, 3D artists, animators, and designers.

Battery Life: The battery itself is quite large, but the high-end components on this laptop consume a lot of power. This means battery life is quite short, especially when performing intensive work tasks.
SSD Capacity & Memory Capacity: This configuration comes with 32 GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM and a 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. It also has two M.2 slots, so you can install extra storage.
Screen Quality: A 16-inch 4K (3840×2400) OLED touchscreen with excelent detail, perfect blacks, and vibrant colors.
